    Hi,
I’ve been teaching Language B since April this year. It’s been quite an experience. Trying to develop all the skills and preparing learners for the assessments is challenging. The idea of having something new creates certain fears and insecurities, even myself. Yet, it has been delightful to start a program that will enhance students future.

I just came home from my sons’ school where I attended an IB meeting. I’m very happy to know that it is an IB school in my country, Dominican Republic. My older son, who is a senior is a certifacate candidate and my second is going to take some IB classes next year. I love the program, as a teacher and as a mother.

My husband and I are interested in finding out more about IB for primary years. Currently, we are homeschooling using many Montessori materials but we also do some inquiry based learning, including many hands on, higher order thinking projects with our sons.
I am a former certified classroom teacher (Pre-k through 8th), all subjects with areas of concentration in gifted, language arts, and early childhood), as well as a gifted resources specialist, and gifted coordinator.
Also have my Montessori training for primary, ages 3-6.
We noticed that there are a few IB programs in our region, so we wanted to start following more closely before we decide whether to continue to homeschool or eventually to apply at one of the area schools. The only issue at hand is that none of the schools are really all that close to us, even though they are in our region. Would love it if there was an IB charter in the works in our area…

We originally chose to homeschool this year because the closest IB program is fairly far from our home and the closest Montessori charter had lost its accreditation. The public schools near us are supposedly “A rated” but they are so far removed from being child centered or inquiry based. Plus, the school’s kindergarten classes all had approx. 36 students per class without a teaching assistant.
Would love to hear from others and to follow what others are doing, especially with respect to setting up a charter school.
    Thanks,
    Colleen Bowers
