We’re halfway through our #generationIB campaign and we’ve already received dozens of submissions from students around the world. IB students have been coming up with exciting, innovative and practical ways to solve global problems, and using social media to engage with the world around them. Teams have set up Twitter and Instagram accounts, some using their chosen theme and their school name to create account handles. We’ve seen some wonderful posters, graphs, sketches and planning documents, so we are really looking forward to what’s yet to come.
Here are just a few of the truly inspiring and thoughtful posts from our students actively working together to think about how they can solve global challenges.
Students in Italy for #environmentIB
Stiv Wilson from the ocean conservation group 5 Gyres estimates that there are more than 315 billion pounds of plastic in our oceans right now. Ocean pollution is indeed one of the biggest challenges of our time, and IB students at the English International School of Padua, Italy are trying to do something about it. The students are selling clothes to fund marine conservation organizations and protect our planet’s oceans.
Students in The Netherlands for #healthIB
Students at the International School of Almere are looking at changes in demographics and increases in chronic disease in the Netherlands. Nowadays, people in the Netherlands have a higher risk of chronic disease than in 1987. Why is this? What can we do about it? We’re excited to see what these students come up with.

Students in Australia for #healthIB
Students at Mountain Creek State High School in Australia have chosen to tackle mental health, a rising concern across the world. They will be using an online ‘Kids helping Kids’ program to help them in their efforts. They are still in the early stages of their project but we look forward to seeing what they come up with. And stay tuned to our Stackla feed or follow them directly on twitter to get all the updates.
For the #HealthIB section of the #generationIB challenge, we will be focusing on mental health with an online, anonymous Kids helping Kids program.
