Earth day 2020: Time to take action

To celebrate International Mother Earth Day, we gathered stories from four members of the IB community who are taking action to preserve our planet.

International Mother Earth Day 2020 marks the 50th anniversary of this global call to action. Nations around the world will be asked to increase their commitments to the climate change policy and it is no surprise that young people will be taking centre stage. These students, educators, and alumni from four IB World Schools have stepped up to make their voices heard.

“This is a continuous journey for us all. It doesn’t end in one year and it should be embedded in the school community.”

Are you looking to eradicate single-use plastics in your community? Students at the International School of Geneva share useful tips on how you can achieve this goal and other initiatives you can implement to protect the environment.

Students from Plaza Middle School in Virginia, U.S. and King’s Edgehill in Nova Scotia, Canada discuss how their solutions will contribute to the well-being of the planet.

Developing climate advocacy: Q&A with Bertine Lakjohn

There are so many people who care and are fighting together against the crisis.”

After witnessing first-hand the impact of climate change in her home in the Marshall Islands, Bertine Lakjohn decided she had to get involved. She shares more about how she engages the community through grassroots organization.

“I try to find ways to show them what there is to care about from their own perspectives.”

Nanticha “Lynn” Ocharoenchai is the 21-year-old student from Chulalongkorn University behind the Climate Strike Thailand movement. She joins us to share her drive for climate action, tips for organizing large grassroots movements and, of course, her IB experience!
