1.American-Scandinavian Foundation Awards: Offered to college graduates interested in studying or conducting research in a Scandinavian country. Will fund up to one year of study to a maximum of $23,000.
*Open to U.S. citizens only.

2.Boren Awards: Offered to graduate students and undergraduates studying critical languages. Will fund overseas study or research in most countries, excluding Australia/Canada/New Zealand/Western Europe, up to $24,000. One-year federal service requirement after graduation.

3.U.S. Teaching Assistantships (Austria): Offered to college graduates. Provides a one-year placement as an English teaching assistant at an Austrian secondary school, with a net monthly salary of approximately $1,500 and health insurance coverage.
*Open to U.S. citizens only. Similar opportunities (German) in Austria for citizens of France, Italy, Russia, and Spain may also be available.

4.Chevening Scholarships: Offered to graduate students who demonstrate outstanding leadership qualities; will fund graduate study in the United Kingdom.

5.World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms: Program/network that connects volunteers with host farms in 60+ countries. Volunteers receive free room and board in exchange for 4-6 hours of farm work per day.
*Open to anyone over the age of 18.

6.Critical Language Scholarships (CLS): Offered to undergraduates studying critical languages. Fully funds ten weeks of summer study at a relevant overseas language institute.
*Open to U.S. citizens only.

7.DAAD Scholarships (Germany): Offered to undergraduates, graduate students, visiting academics, and researchers wishing to study or work in Germany. Funding varies by individual scholarship.

8.Eiffel Scholarships: Offered to graduate students who wish to complete a Masters or PhD program in France. Funds living expenses and provides a stipend for up to 36 months.
*Open to all foreign (non-French) citizens.

9.Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships: Offered to graduate students and professionals. Will fully fund a Masters or PhD course at an Australian university, up to six months of research in Australia, or a 1-4 month professional development course in Australia.
*Open to citizens of participating countries.

10.English Opens Doors Program: Run by the Chilean Ministry of Education and supported by the United Nations Development Program, this program brings native English speakers between the ages of 21 and 35 years into Chilean public and subsidized schools to develop the listening and speaking skills of young Chileans as well as to encourage cultural exchange.
*Open to all foreign citizens with native or near-native English proficiency.

11.Foreign Language Teaching Assistant Program in France/TAPIF: Offered to speakers of English, German, Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese, and selected other languages who have completed at least two years of university study. Provides a one-year placement as a language teaching assistant at a French school and a net monthly salary of €790. Separate website for American applicants.

12.Fulbright Programs: Offered to recent university graduates, graduate students, scholars, researchers, and teachers. Funds overseas research and exchange programs for up to one year.
*Open to both U.S. and foreign citizens, depending on specific program – visit website to determine eligibility.

13.Gates Cambridge Scholarships: Offered to graduate students interested in studying at the University of Cambridge. Fully funds all expenses associated with pursuing a PhD, MSc, MLitt, or one-year postgraduate course.

14.German Chancellor Fellowships: Offered to college graduates and professionals interested in living, networking, and building leadership skills in Germany. Provides language training and a monthly stipend of up to €2,750 for one year.
*Open to citizens of the U.S., China, Russia, Brazil, and India only.

15.Huayu Enrichment Scholarships: Offered to foreign nationals who wish to study Mandarin Chinese in Taiwan. Will provide tuition and living expenses for up to one year of study.
*Open to foreign (non-Taiwanese) students whose home countries have diplomatic relations with the Republic of China.

16.Italian government scholarships: Offered to graduate and undergraduate students. Will fund three, six, or nine months of study at a public Italian university. Will also fund research and language/culture courses in certain cases.

17.Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme: Offered to college graduates interested in living and working in Japan. Provides full-time placements (for up to five years) as an assistant English language teacher or as a coordinator for international relations in a government office, as well as round-trip airfare to Japan and free language training.

18.Luce Scholars Program: Offered to young graduates of 75 participating colleges and universities who have demonstrated leadership and excellence in their field of study or chosen profession. Provides a yearlong professional placement in an Asian country, a stipend, and language training.
*Open to U.S. citizens who have graduated from a participating institution only.

19.Monbukagakusho (Japanese government) Scholarships: Offered to graduate and undergraduate students. Will fully fund up to seven years of study at a Japanese university, including language training.
*Open to all foreign citizens.

20.North American Language and Culture Assistants (Spain): Offered to college graduates and undergraduates who have completed at least two years of study. Provides a one-year placements in a local school as an assistant English or French language teacher and a monthly stipend of €700.
*Open to U.S. and Canadian citizens only.

21.OAS Professional Development Scholarships: Offered to professionals who wish to undertake a short-term, non-academic course in an OAS member state. Funds may be used for tuition and fees, international travel, and health insurance.
*Open to all citizens of OAS member states.

22.Teach and Learn in Korea (TaLK) Program: Offered to college graduates and current undergraduates who have completed at least two years of study. Provides a one-year placement as an English teacher at a rural elementary school; scholarship funds round-trip airfare to South Korea, housing, and a monthly stipend.
*Open to citizens of Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, the UK, and the U.S. only.

23.Teach for China Fellowships: Offered to college graduates with proficiency in Mandarin Chinese. Provides a two-year placement as a teacher in an under-resourced Chinese school, with free housing and health insurance. Teachers receive salaries commensurate with local teachers’ salaries in their region.
