Everything you need to know about the 2015 IB World Student Conferences

The IB World Student Conferences are coming up this July and August. They are open to all IB students world-wide at two locations, the University of Rochester and La Salle Campus Barcelona-Ramon Llull University. You will find everything you need to know about the conferences below.

University of Rochester

What if clean water could reach millions of people thanks to the playground fun of schoolchildren? How did the sport of rugby help to heal one of recent history’s most violent social divisions? Can video games save lives? These are all real-world examples of play making a global impact! Our natural instinct to play is not just a way for kids to keep busy; it can increase the harmony of personal relationships, enhance the way we learn, and jumpstart innovation.

During this conference, students will engage experts in the field, current events, and authentic media on the connections that can be drawn between human play and solving real-world challenges. They will inquire into the various interpretations of “play” and analyze case studies of practitioners who are already leveraging human play to transform the world around us. This inquiry will serve as the foundation and inspiration for conference participants to work in Global Action Teams to identify a global issue of interest and develop a creative and playful solution to address it.

The University of Rochester is a world leader in finding creative solutions to global problems through research across all academic disciplines. Come spend a week on our beautiful campus and return home with new tools to impact social change and “put play to work!”

La Salle Campus Barcelona-Ramon Llull University

How has technology transformed the world around us and influenced society?

During this conference, students will take a critical look at the use and impact of technology in today’s global society. Over the course of the week, participants will  inquire into the various forms of technology and experience the theme through the lens of the architect, engineer and the business manager or the entrepreneur. These professional realms mirror the three faculties at La Salle Campus Barcelona and will provide insight into their academic life, through hands-on projects, as well as exposure to authentic content from experts in the field.  This inquiry and learning experience will serve as the foundation and inspiration for conference participants to work in Global Action Teams to identify a global issue of interest and develop a creative and technology-based solution to address it.

Understanding how technology influences the way we live in today’s world is key to being future leaders: people who can channel changes for the good, by applying technological innovation to make a better world.
