The Reflective Project is one of the four compulsory core components of the IB Career-related Programme (CP). It provides students with the opportunity to develop their skills, to explore ideas and to think in a way that will support them in their future career. It promotes intellectual discovery and creativity through exploration of a real-world dilemma, while considering perspectives of others through current, historical, local, and global contexts.
The academic year 2021/2022 was a challenging yet exciting experience for Al Jabr Islamic School CP students, particularly CP2 students as the first cohort of the CP graduates. CP Coordinator Dina Anggraini shares her school’s journey.
Can you tell us about your decision to add CP to your schools existing PYP and MYP offering?
It articulates our school mission. It’s the school’s effort to provide a high-quality education by providing a continuum curriculum and facilitating the students’ diverse needs, talents, and interests. The IB philosophy is in line with the Al Jabr Islamic School mission which is to provide a high-quality education for our community of learners to develop and maximize their potential through active, life-long learning and experiences which enable them to become well-rounded individuals intellectually, physically, emotionally and socially in creating a better world with respect of Islamic values in Indonesia and international.
How was the authorization process for you?
Having first delivered the CP programme in 2019, the authorization process went very well – especially considering it was during a global pandemic. It was a hybrid authorization process, the authorization team from Gandhi School Jakarta visited our school and Suriyani Rahamat, the authorization team leader visited our school virtually.
Can you tell us about your RP exhibition?
The school held the inaugural Reflective Project exhibition to celebrate the students’ achievements who demonstrated perseverance throughout their CP journey. The purpose of the exhibition was to provide students the opportunity to share their research and critical thinking skills with the entire school community.
Our students could also observe the IB Continuum in action at the exhibition since they had all actively engaged in the MYP Personal and Community Project. The exhibition provided a great precursor and introduction to our CP 1 and MYP 5 students, allowing them to learn more about the Reflective Project before beginning their own CP journeys.
The exhibition also offered students the opportunity to communicate with the school community by conveying their opinions and thoughts - something they had missed due to the Global Pandemic. It also helped the students in increasing their confidence and motivation for studying, which would be beneficial in their future journey as college students.

“The Reflective Project and CP program have tested my ability to explore new professional values and interests, which will benefit my future career path. It challenged me to broaden my knowledge while also acquiring diverse perspectives on new topics, particularly those linked to career studies. Furthermore, the DP exam helped me recall all of the information I had learned in previous classes, therefore improving my personal and professional skills.”
Dina Anggraini is a CP Coordinator and Reflective Project Coordinator at Al Jabr Islamic School, Jakarta, Indonesia. Dina has worked as a teacher for 8 years (1 year in a non-IB school and 7 years in an IB school). Dina enjoys being a teacher as it is challenging yet exciting, she explains that it’s important to keep learning in order to be a good facilitator for her students.
