Eminent curriculum experts Jim Cummins, Eithne Gallagher, Dr Roma Chumak-Horbatsch and Dr Fred Genesee recently met PYP Curriculum Manager Cécile Doyen at the IB Global Centre in The Hague to discuss language and learning within the context of the PYP review.
Our experts shared a common view: the PYP has the capacity of being even more open to other languages and cultures than it is today, and we need to support our educators in developing their understanding of multilingualism as a resource in a transdisciplinary framework.
“With this review, we have an opportunity to enhance PYP students’ experience by strengthening the programme’s provision for language development across the curriculum and by offering our schools more support in this area.” – Cécile Doyen
Language and learning is also a regular feature in our LinkedIn group PYP Educators (sub-group of International Baccalaureate), a forum that offers a great opportunity to share your thoughts with fellow educators. Get involved and discuss, for example, how we can plan language teaching in a transdisciplinary framework or how we can make use of new technology and methods to support students’ language development when moving forward in the PYP review.
