As Diploma Programme (DP) and Career-related Programme (CP) students around the world receive their results, the IB’s Deputy Director General Sally Holloway shares some words of celebration and optimism for the class of 2020.
Class of 2020: Congratulations, you made it. I’m sure that there were many times over the last few months that you were not sure that this day would come. But finally, here we are: Results day. We would like to extend our congratulations to all of the Diploma Programme (DP) and Career-related Programme (CP) students out there.
This was not the way we all expected to see 2020. There is no way that we started off in January expecting that the May session exams would be canceled. COVID-19 (Coronavirus) had other plans for us. And while this may not be the way that you thought that you would be celebrating your graduation, please know that there are 1.5 million IB graduates out there who are celebrating with you in 156 different countries, and they wish to say congratulations.
“We are confident that you will make your success into the next stage.”
You are leaving very well qualified with the skills that you need in order to flourish and thrive in your next few years. This is an opportunity for us to thank our schools, our examiners, administrators, universities and parents for the support that they’ve provided you and us over the last few months.
In addition, the higher education institutions have been extremely positive about the IB’s approach to this May’s examination session. And they have provided us with feedback to say that they are looking forward to welcoming you at their universities in the fall. We are confident that you will make your success into the next stage.
We would like to wish you the very best as you go forward, and we are very excited to learn about everything that you will achieve in your future. Malcolm X once said, “Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.”
Congratulations class of 2020.
